Hydraulic power transferred to the liquid:

Phyd = ρ · g · Q · H

Pump shaft input power:

Pinput = Phyd / η

Where:

  • Q = flow rate
  • H = total pump head
  • ρ = liquid density
  • η = pump efficiency

Engineering note

Hydraulic power is the useful power transferred to the liquid.

Pump input power is the shaft power required after pump efficiency losses are considered.
